Sussex Athletics Cross Country
Each year we take part in the series of cross country races organised by Sussex Athletics. The season starts with a relay event for the Sussex Cross Country Relay Championships. Then there are 4 league races where we can accrue points for the club. There are also the Sussex Cross Country Championships and the Sussex Masters Cross Country Championships. The races cover the whole range of ages and we enter various teams in each event. The courses are very similar to the WSFRL races and are generally around 8k in length, with the ladies running slightly less distance. Cost per race is c£6.00 and you enter individually through the Sussex Athletics website. Click here for more information. They are very social events and you will find lots of support from other club runners. Paul Luttman is our representative for these races so, look out for his announcements on the Spond group and in emails.
On Saturday 12th October we head to Goodwood Country Park for the first Sussex XC league race this season.
Here are the provisional start times, team categories and course distances:
2.05pm - Senior & Vet Women (V35, V45, V55, V65 & V75) - 5km course
2.35pm - Senior & Vet Men (V40, V50, V60 & V70) - 8km course
The venue is on the top of the South Downs at Goodwood Racecourse, Selhurst Park Road, PO18 0PS. The course (aka WSFRL Trundle View) is a mix of South Downs grassland and woodland trails in Goodwood Country Park. Free parking, registration and toilets are on the grassland opposite the racecourse.
In the league races your result counts towards a S&S team score on the day which counts towards a league based on all four races over the season. In the Women and Vet Men races three runners count towards their teams' score. In the Snr Men race it is four runners. Vets can score for both the Snr and Vets teams. There is no limit on the number of runners we can enter in the races. Whilst the first three / four count towards the team’s score everyone else contributes by affecting the other teams’ scores.
These races are suitable for all abilities and are no tougher than autumn / winter WSFRL races. The only requirement is a S&S top. You enter personally either in advance online or on the day at registration.
